  1. Dear Sir,
I’m a 10Yr. Exp professional working in Bangalore.
I’m interested in this course. Is this a full time programme if not then what are the class timings? How many hours I have to to dedicate weekly?
    Thanks & Regards,
    Barun

    1. Dear Barun,

EGMP is non residential 1 year program. It will require you to study 2 hrs daily to be able to pass the exams and to be able to read the course materials. It is intended for middle and senior management professionals. EPGP at IIMB is full time program. About class timings: spend 4 days every 2.5 months at campus and classes are mostly on weekends ( full day 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM) and you also need to do assignments and homework etc.
      Hope, I answered your question.

  2. Hi Vikash,

Are there strict evaluation guide lines for EGMP course. I got an offer for IIMC-EPBM for this year. I am unable to decide on whether i should join or apply for IIM-B EGMP course next year..

    Please give your suggestions..

    1. Dear Balaji,
There would be surely an evaluation guideline/criteria for EGMP selection process. Unfortunately, I can’t comment more than this for now because this is a matter pertaining to IIMB panel.
Course content wise IIMC-EPBM and EGMP seems to be similar (based on review on IIMC EPBM course topics available on website), except one additional subject on ethics and governance in EGMP.
You can decide based on your location & timing convenience etc. By the EGMP course fee is 1.25 lac. more than IIMC-EPBM.
      Good luck!

  3. Hi Vindhu,

Myself,Ankan Roy currently is 4.7 years of experience in IT industry is interested in seeking ” Executive General Management Programme” from IIMB.

I would like to enroll myself for this course for the coming year 2012 batch.
    .

Could you please let me know the basic eligibility criteria and the admission procedure of this particular course.

Please do provide us your valuable suggestions . Also do let us know whether I will be geeting any placemnt opportunity from IIMB for this course?

Just going through the programmes there is one more programme PGSEM is there. Please let me know which will be more worthy to be having?

    Many Thanks and Kind Regards,
    Ankan

    1. Based on the student’s profile in EGMP class, the minimum experience is around 7 year and max. 20 year or so(1 or 2 cases). Though, majority of students are from engineering background(at IIMB) but there’s is fair representation of students coming from diverse industrial sectors like manufacturing, finance, etc.
There’s no placement requirements for EGMP because most of students are already in executive position.
PGSEM students are mostly from IT background so you can try with 5 years of experience. However, PGSEM course eligibility would require you to pass written exam(CAT/GMAT) and interviews before, you get admission. Good luck!

  4. Hi Vindhu,i just enrolled for the upcoming EGMP batch. can you share in which areas EGMP helped you & is there a visible change in your approach to your current assisgments or projects. Will be glad to know.
    Cheers,Nilesh

    1. Dear Nilesh – Congratulations!
To me, the benefit is really about the different perspectives that I’ve got. I see immediate benefits after completing the courses like General commercial knowledge and learning about the contract laws. Such course makes you a more aware & informed person while conducting your business. I am sure, among many other courses, you’ll find GCK very interesting and you’ll be laughing and smiling all through, while learning some valuable lessons about business and contract law. This is just a glimpse from one such class at IIMB and atmosphere is full of enthusiasm always. Post program support is also available from proff. on ‘either or survivor basis’, which is amazing. See it for yourself in the days to come…

  5. Hello Vindhu

I have dropped mail to your IIM-B id as got few more questions to ask, so appreciate if you can reply those as I am not able to fit all on page

    Regards

  6. Hello Vindu

As per discussion posting Q&A on blog which will help others

    1. Course is 9 months or 1 year? As per site, it shows duration ~10 months for EGMP-22
    Answer: It’s 1 year course.
    2. What are on-campus class timings? Is it 8 AM – 5PM?
Answer: Class timing: 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM (classes start on sharp 9:00 AM but ends sometimes at 5:30 or so, depending on situation)
    3. Do we require any previous exposure on finance etc… do you think that will affect?
Answer: Finance exposure is not a must but it’s good to have some basic knowledge about Finance etc.You can expect to learn finance and economics (macro and micro) and this course. However, you must possess a quest for self-learning also.

    4. How you find course, I must say interacting with IIMB faculty must be great experience but my concern how much in depth they cover in 9/10 month period..looking at topic list, do they just brush upon or you get chance to get bit more on concept level
Answer: True, It’s been great experience and facult teaches using same content and books, as they teach in PGP courses. Don’t expect spoon feeding from faculty at IIMB. Prof. generally gives you decent foundation and rest is on the individual to utilize their learning to maximize the utility of their learning. EGMP is fast track course for practicing middle and senior level management.
    5. I am not doing C&B analysis, but somewhat similar course from IIM-L cost 2.0 lacs (though passing out exam arranged by NIIT is required) so where you have seen difference in choosing IIM-B?
Answer: I don’t know about IIM L but interaction level with IIMB faculty is good. Prof. support their students even after the course completion and help them throughout for every little doubts here and there, which is a big plus.

  7. HI Vindhu ,

I would like to join EGMP programme at IIMB ,I carry 5 years of experience in IT industry ,pls help me with application procedure the tentative dates .
Also is it must to have 7 yrs of work experience or they even consider ppl with lesser work ex like me .

    Thanks so much !
    Megha

    1. Hi Megha,
Thanks for your note. You can apply for EGMP program, once the next batch announcements are made by IIMB through it’s official website. The instructions will be provided. There is general observation that you get into middle level management role with around 7 years of experience. The course is designed for middle and senior level executives. I am not in position to comment whether IIMB can accept someone with 5 years of experience. You can consult EEP Office at IIMB for more details.

  8. Hello sir,

I have got 5+ years of experience in IT industry, I’m interested in seeking “Executive General Management Programme” from IIMB.

Could you please let me know the basic eligibility criteria and the admission dates, procedure of this particular course.

Also please let me know about placement opportunity from IIMB for this course?

    Thanks,
    Sailusha

    1. The min. experience was 7 years & max 17-20 years in some of the previous batches. Nevertheless, you can apply but selection depends on criteria & judgment of elite IIMB Prof. panel, apart from quality of your other competitors/ applicants as well in that particular batch.

  9. Hi,

This is Subbu here. I have few questions on the EGMP @ IIM B.

    1. How frequently are the weekend (2 day session held ) over 1 yr?

    2. On an average how many hrs should we spend / day for studying? Is it manageable coz i hear scary stories from my friends who do their part time MBA in IIM B. Very tedious one, i heard.

    3. I am at one level below management in my company and have 5+ yrs experience? For upcoming managers does the course suit well?

    4. What is the total cost of the course for one year?

    Thanks,

    1. Hi Subbu,
Reg. your queries, pls find the response :
      1. Classes are on every alternate weekend.
      2. IIMB recommends 2 hrs of study every day.
      3. Ideally, 7 years and above experience is considered because the course is intended for
      Middle and senior level executives.
      4. Course fees is approx. 4.5 lacs payable in 3 installments.
      Good luck!

    2. Hi, Can you please share sample CV required for EGMP admission? I am planning to apply for the course.

      1. Every CV is unique because every individual is unique. 🙂
It’s ok, use any format but articulate your knowledge, skills and experience, appropriately. There’s NO FIXED FORMAT of CV and so please don’t even bother about it. Just Be yourself!

        Best wishes!

  10. Hi,

This is Sachin. I have nearly 14 yrs of experience in software side and am planning to apply for EGMP @ IIMB.

Like to know the content that should be projected in the CV (like, is it the job role and the work experience or the qualification and achievements) and the style of presentation.

Also, like know if there is a need to stay in campus at any point, during the program.

    1. Hi Sachin,

My apologies for late response to your queries. Ab’t CV, you write whatever you consider as relevant work experience & highlight your brief/ extensive management experience(if any).
This is non residential program so you don’t need to stay at Campus. Good luck!

    2. You don’t need to stay in campus but you need to attend the classes to get full benefit of this program. Write about your work exp. in a structured manner & that might help to get you through. There is no fixed format of CV.

    1. The certificate will state that you’ve completed course within the particular duration & you get marks card & grades seperately for the subjects for which you write exams.

      1. Hi Vindu,

I have a question on the same line. When you say the certificate state that you completed the course, do you mean it says, completed EGMP successfully or similar to the certificate given for EPGP. As I read in some other forum it says, it is not MBA or diploma.

        Can you please clarify.

        Thanks!!

  11. Hi,

Thanks for all the valuable information.

My query: Does this course happen only once a year, or are there multiple batches. As someone told me that this course is run fresh every quarter, Hence more than 20+ batches in the last decade.

as per iimb website the last date for application for the Jan 2012 batch, is11th Nov 2011.

Since I have passed the deadline, was wondering if i call apply in the next batch in a couple of months, or do i need to wait for the Jan 2013 batch ?

    Thanks
    Tapesh

  12. Dear Vindu;

  17. Hi Vindu,

I have already completed my 2 year full time PG in Management from Non Premier B School in year 2007. Currently i am working in a retail organization as Buying & Merchandising Manager for cosumer durables with experience of more than 5 years.

I majorly wish to persue an executive management course to seek a change in sector / industry, mostly interested in product / marketing management for FMCG / CD companies.

Do you feel that EGMP will help me persue my desire.

Also, do you feel that my earlier PG course may make it difficult for me to crack a seat for this course.

Will wait for your valuable suggestions.

    Shishir

  18. Dear Vindu,

  19. Hi Vivi,

I am already a MBA graduate from Bangalore university which i feel was not so useful in building my career in a managerial way. I have been selected for the Batch 26., i am a bit confused should i take this course to upgrade my self and will that be different approach.

    Thanks.
    Ramya

  20. Hi, can you tell me when is the next batch of EGMP (batch 27) start date .. .when can we expect the application forms …

    1. Hi Tapan,
It depends on what are your expectation from the GMITE program. If you can state your objectives then it would have been easier for me to respond.
However, if you are aiming at a management course in mid. career stage then you can consider EGMP because it helps to build a good perspective about business ecosystem and makes you skilled to deal with underlying challenges. Thought, course content wise EGMP and GMITE are almost similar but EGMP has few additional course which are not taught in GMITE. You can ask for detailed course curriculum from the EEP office of IIM-B. Good luck!
      Best,

  21. Hi Vindu,

Request your support in clarifying few doubts:

    1) While submitting the application (current due date is 31st Oct 2012) do we need to submit a detailed CV or one pager resume?
    2) Is statement of Purpose a must ?
    3) What is the key selection criteria ( is there any interviews/ group discussions)
    3) Any other important items we should consider while submitting our application?

  22. Hi VV,

    Doing a great job….

I wish to know the following details in regard to EGMP from IIMB as i am planning to enroll for 2013 batch ,i have 14 years experience and currently heading a organization ,
1.i have not done the formal management degree ,will this course be recognized in corporate company’s?
2.Is there education loan available for this program?
3.Whether this is recognized in the market
    P.Jina

    1. Hi Jina,
This course will definitly help to sharpen your mgmt skills and will help to build a solid perspectives on business and economy. Reg. your queries:
      1. Yes, it could be helpful. but, you also need to commit yourselves for the learnings during this course and would require to regular/daily study. Please review your preparedness for this course.
      2. Banks provide loans anyways for anything & everything 🙂 It should not be a problem. But, don’t get into loan traps, unless it is really necessary for you. You will end up paying more interest.
      3. This course is well recognized and IIMB also gives you status of its alumunus, upon the course completion.

      Best wishes,

  23. Hi Vivi

Kudos to you for replying and advising everybody so patiently 🙂 My query is about the GMITE program which is on similar lines but with a different objective. I was wondering if you know how useful it is in helping me to transition from a core technical role to a management role (not necessarily a manager! but pmo sort of thing).

To give you a background – i have more than 4 yrs of experience in infrastructure services ( EMC SAN Storage) and i’m looking for a change of role similar to pmo or a buisnes analyst. If there are some other courses/certifications which may help me achieve this pl let me know.

    Thanks for your help!

    Regards
    T

    1. Hi,

Apologies for late response to your query. I am not an expert advisor on GMITE program but I hear that it’s almost similar as EGMP in terms of course curriculum except the fact that EGMP is oriented more towards General Management in any industry but GMITE is only for IT professionals to help the participants to advance their career in management ladder particularely in IT Industry. You can surely contact EEP office to help you get more details on GMITE.

      Best,

  24. Hi Vindu,
appreciate you taking the time and effort to share your knowledge and experience with others. I wanted ask about your experience with the EGMP programme and how it has impacted and changed your life and career–in tangible and intangible ways.
    Thank you.
    Regards,
    Anu.

    1. Hi Anu,

Thanks for your kind words. As far as my experience with EGMP is concerned, I believe, I am lot more aware person now compared to past and can read the pulse of business & industry which surely helps in any decision making especially when you are in mgmt / advisory roles. Secondly, i was not so versed with finance & accounting etc but I am reasonably confident that I can predict company’s performance based on it’s balance sheets & annual reports etc(Kudos to my mgmt accounting, corporate finance and F&A faculty at iimb). Needless to say, that it’s an allround mgmt skill development program, which, if learnt & applied effectively then it can give you razor sharp skills to run any enterprise while keeping a holistic views on business, government & society. Such program also helps to build your network with your peers in same / different industry.

      Best,

  25. Hi Vindu

Your info given here are really helpful, however I had some queries and hence thought of asking from you. It will be a great guidance from you if you could help me for –

    1 > Does a Master’s Degree required to pursue this course ?
2 > Is it mandatory to be graduated from a regular college or correspondence course will all be OK to get admitted for this course, what is the minimum percentage required in graduations ?
3 > Where can I find the details about this course, any link to IIMB ?

    Regards
    Naresh Banka

    1. Hi Naresh,
      W.r.t. your queries:
      1. There’s no particular requirements that master’s degree is a must but you can confirm this from EEP office of IIMB.
      2. Again, I’m not sure about this so better check with EEP office of IIMB.

  27. Hi Vindu,

I have received an Offer for EGMP 27th Batch. I am in a dilema to join or not. I understand that a guy who has formal PGDBA or MBA will benefit more out of it than a guy who did not have it. Also do we get enough weightage and support from this in career future aspriations?. Please advise with your valued input at the earliest.

    Thanks,
    Sarada
    aero_smp@yahoo.in

    1. Hi Sarada,
At the very outset, heartiest congratulations upon getting selected for IIMB EGMP course. Since, I don’t know much about your past career but i can say that the course will help to develop a broader perspective at par with any candidate with PGDBA or MBA education in past. The program is very intensive and would require you devote at least two hrs of time for studies on daily basis during entire duration of program. There are exams too, which will evaluate your learning and how you apply them. But, do remember what you are going to learn here, will remain with you for lifelong. Besides, one can also look forward for making a good networking with working professionals from diverse industrial background. If you are in a middle/ sr. mgmt role then you can surely benefit from this program.

      Best wishes,

  28. Moving content to the appropriate category. Hope, it helps others with similar queries.

    Hello Vindu,

I have applied for EGMP 25th Batch commencing in May 2012.

I have diversified total experience of 6.8 years with an International retailer who is UK based and mainly into Apparel and Food.

I worked as a retail planned for 3 years then moved to London, UK to work as Supply Chain Business Analyst for 3 years and now moved back to India and working as a product Merchandiser. My all experience has been with the same company.

I am not sure if I will get selected but hopeful! My only objective for applying for this course is to give myself some direction in terms on General / Senior Management instead of getting saturated in a functional (domain specialist) role.
Do you think doing this course (of course if I get selected) will help or give a new perspective?

    Thank you,
    Vinita

    Hi Prakashi,
For armed force officers, IIMB has a special batch. You may have a better chance of selection in that particular batch and I believe placement assistance is also provided for the armed forces batch. Please check the details from IIMB admission office.
    Reg. your other queries:
    1. How useful is this course for defence officers seeking second career?
    >> Formal Mgmt eduction will be helpful anyway while changing a career track/ second career.
    2. Does the industry recognise the course? if so, how difficult/easy, it is for placement purposes?
    >> I suggest that you attempt for special armed forces batch at IIMB, placement assistance could be provided.
    3. what are the chances of Defence officer getting selected for the course?
    >> For armed forces batch, only defence officer can apply.
    4. While applying, do I have to get some recommendations from from some previous employers? In my case There is only one i.e Indian Navy.
    >> Nope, if any no-objection certificates are required the institute will inform you in advance during application process.

    …best wishes.

  30. Hi,
    I am a content management professional with 11 years diverse experience in knowledge management and intranet management. Am looking for a broader middle management perspective to grow up the ladder in functional or generic middle management roles. I understand that this whole program will change your perspective towards work with wider exposure to management topics. As you had already discussed, that working professionals dont need placement assistance. Want to know the renumeration aspect – i.e. -when i go back to my work place loaded with this certificate, how much of additional value does it carry to help me move up the ladder;

    1. It depends on how you utilize your knowledge to enhance your skills which will help in your career progression. But, the EGMP program will certainly improve your management skills which you may find immensely helpful, if you are in middle or senior level management roles.

  31. Hi, I am enrolling for upcoming batch. I am required to apply online and it request for job profile letter. Does it need to be on companys letter head or is it self prepared SOP/Resume?

    Thanks
    Vikas

  32. Hi Vikash,

Firstly, thanks for your informative blog.
I will share you my perspective about the EGMP course at IIMB.

My reason of applying for this course:
    1. To get a IIMB certificate on my CV.
    2. I belong to the design field, where we design stores. This is a very naive depmnt and needs a strategic approach and business alignment with the company’s goals n objectives. Do u think this course is good for designers pursuing for a higher career ladder?

    Rgds
    Rajat

    1. Dear Rajat, I shall answer 2nd point. Yes, the program surely enhances your abilities to lead and manage the business successfully, if your career aspirations are towards a business mgmt roles. All the best. Rgds,

  33. Hi VV,

After you completions of this course, How you have been viewed from others?. I am still confusion how i will be different from others if i take this coruse. Its bit costly(4.5l) than other PGM courses. Plese share your thoughts and recommnedations. Thanks for all your guidence.

    Rgd,
    Senthil

    1. Hello Senthil,
I’ve already respond to your query in my post. My motivations while considering to apply for this course were; 1. Opportunity to increase my mgmt knowledge base 2. Opportunity to network with peers (fellow students) having same/diverse industrial backgrounds and great opportunity to interaction with Prof. 3. Access to IIMB resources. 4. Location advantage for study & work (B’lore).
Since, I was keen to pursue this course so my org. also supported me well, by allowing to take leaves when required to attend classes, which is also a very important aspect in all this.
Reg. second part of your query; I am unable to comment on any other PGM courses & their course fee because I don’t have much info.

  34. Hi VV,

Need your guidence and support. I have 12 yrs of experience in IT industry and working as Sr. Project Manager. The current Role /activities are kind of getting bored and don’t see any value add my career . I would like to move up other Management Roles/Leadership and don’t know whether i have competency to get that positions.

So could you please help me How this course really help to build my career in better way? Will this really change my mind to move forward my career? will it scaleup my managerial competency. My friends are recommending Sixsigma certifications / PMP Program Manger/ITIL certifications which i am not at all really intrested to do it.

Please suggest how this course will help me to have better career shape will it really worth to spend 4.5l?

    Thanks & Regards
    Babuji

    1. Hello Babuji! Thanks for leaving your note & with your candid admissions, I can understand that you are going though a common syndrome called ‘mid career crisis’. So, reg. your query; whether a IIM course help you to shape up your career? It solely depends on how well your pick up mgmt related knowledge & how effectively you apply them to develop your skills & experience.
If you are aspiring for a career in mgmt./leadership role but you have never had chance to attend any mgmt courses then such courses will help develop your mgmt. related knowledge base which will be useful, whenever you get an opportunity to run the enterprise/ business, independently.

Reg. career progression in IT industry; if you continue to perform well in your current role & whichever org. you work with then slow but steadily it is inevitable that gradully you will be given opportunities to manager wider/bigger portfolios. However, if you want to pursue any career beyond IT then a general mgmt program will surely be handy. Best wishes!

  35. Hi Vikash,
I am applying for the course and today is the last day…. i have uploaded my documents but now i am not sure if the Job Description has to be my CV with pointers ? or an in detail SOP which helps the panel review my writing skills.

    Please advice.

    Regards,
    Neha

  36. Hi, Does any one know when we will get a call/ email on the shortlist for the course starting in April’13?
    Regards,
    Neha

  37. Dear Sir,

I have received admission confirmation for the following course of IIM Bangalore i.e Executive General Management Programme (EGMP-28) ON CAMPUS BATCH. I have been working with Media Companies since 1996 like Zee / Star & now with Hollywood production & distribution company.

I have already completed three years part time PGDBM in finance from N.L Dalmia inst of management studies , Mumbai in the yr 2000.

I wanted to ask you that whether this course would be helpful to the future prospects & value addition. Is is worth to spend Rs.4.5 lakhs for this?

Your inputs on this would be highly appreciated.

    Warm Regards

    Saranjit Singh

    1. Congratulations Saranjit! Apologies for my late response due to my busy schedule these days. If you are already a management graduate & then you may not really require another management course. However you may consider spending the money for any leadership skill development related training programs offered by premier institutes like IIMs. Best wishes!

  38. Hello Vidhu,

Really appreciate your dedication in responding to each and every query.

My question is related to EGMP but slightly different from what others have asked so far thus bothering you. I am a working professional with over 12 years of experience. I am considering EGMP for career advancement but have a very busy work schedule. Given the nature and duration of EGMP, I feel it is a little overwhelming for the free time I get. Thus, I was wondering if I could get the material for it from the market and pre-prepare so the actual course is not too straining on my time?

    Thanks,
    SK

    1. Dear SK, Apologies for my late response due to my busy schedule these days. I agree with your viewpoint knowing that IIM course is very demanding and hence you need to surely carve out few hrs everyday to be able to digest the contents of the training & the study materials. In terms of study materials- there are prescribed books for each subjects but on top of it, the profs. give their own customized study materials (depending upon the depth of topics, which individual prof. may want to cover during the classes). If you happen to be at B’lore then you can consider to visit bookshop at IIMB, where you may find plenty of books of each of mgmt subjects. The books prescribed by Prof. in EGMP program are mostly same, which are taught in PGP/EPGP courses.

      1. Once again, thank you very much. I am in Bangalore and will make it a point to visit the store in IIMB.

  39. Hi Vindu,

I am Parul, 8 year experience and planning for EGMP 29 course. I need urgent help for below questions –

    1. Since 5 day per quarter approx need to be joined ON Campus classes along with the weekend (saturday) class – my question is – How much the attendance is mandatory ?
I am asking becoz, not sure how much leaves will be approved from my organisation.

    2. It was asked to submit 1 page about your professional journey – Is it need to be in resume format or can be written in a 1 pager document format ( story, essay ..)

    Pls respond at earliest.

  40. Hi Vidhu,

i am following this post since last 1.5 years and i really appreciate your reply for each query.

I have done my PG diploma in management (2007) and since then working with a leading retail Hypermarket Chain of India in the vertical of Buying & Merchandising as Category Manager (senior manager), total exp: 6+ years.
I wish a change in sector/industry hence want to persue executive MBA from premier college.
However my previous 2 applications did not get shortlist for EGMP, can you please guide/help on waht to highlight in my resume.

  41. Hi Vidhu,

I’m planning to join the EGMP course, however I was just wondering if this is equivalent to the executive MBA that is widely spoken about. What will the certificate represent? Also I would like to know on the attendance criteria and how many days is mandatory to attend. Will it impact if we take couple of days off especially during the on-campus 1 week sessions that are planned for?

    1. Hi Priya,

Upon, the certificate would represent that you’ve completed the part time executive general management program from IIMB. You will also be given marks card with grade for the each exams that you’ve taken. If you do not take exams then no grade sheet will be issued and only a certificate of participation (Not the course completion certificate) will be given.

IIMs do not call their courses as MBA & rather they call it as Program (PGP, EPGP, EGMP etc) . Executive MBA or MBA is terms used by other institutes and IIMB does not uses the same.

  42. Hi Vidhu,

Firstly wud like to thank you for having started such a wonderful tread & appreciate your patience and efforts in clarifying the queries raised here.

I have exp of abt 7.5 yrs basically a civil engg but heading Sales team currently. I applied for Batch 28 for the 1st time but dint get a call. After following few blogs I realized may be I havent written the SOP the way i had to be, and also was not knowing the importance of it. This time I am in the process of applying for Batch 29 & I have prepared SOP as well, but not sure how many words is the limit. Also do they ask for SOP seperate & the CV seperate or both needs to be combined. Dont wan mess up this time. Please provide me your email id or drop in an email to me at ibbukhan@gmail.com to send u the SOP for a review. Awaiting ur email.

    Thanks in advance!!

    Regards,

    Ibrahim

    1. Hi,

Provide only the information that is being asked/ suggested through application brouchure. Additionally, include a CV. Do not attach SOP, if same is not asked for.

      Cheers!

  43. Hi Vikash,

Since the course name is EGMP…is it considered equivalent to an MBA ? Or just a certification in General Management?
I am a B.Tech as of now. So after this course completion can I update my qualification to Post Graduate?

  44. Hi vindu
i wanted to know few things
    1) do i need to write any exap to get into EGMP
    2) generally when it starts and when is the next batch is coming
    3) fees?
    4) after compleeting will i be part of alumni

    1. I suggest, you can refer the EGMP course program brochure from IIMB and it will have all the necessary details. Reg. answer to your query #4; yes, you’ll be part of alumni after completing the program.

  45. Hi Vindu,

Please let me know attendance criteria. As part of my job, i have to go to short trips to onsite. How many days i can take leave?

    1. There’s 75% -80% attendence, expected. But, important questions that you should rather think is that why you would even miss a class (avg. fee per day is INR 10K). It’s better to not to skip the classes else you lose the benefit of the program.

  46. Hi

I had applied to 29th batch of EGMP program and was quite saddened to receive a regret mail from IIMB. THey have stated that out of 550+ application they had to choose only 85 applications.

Will I stand a chance in preferential list if I apply for the next batch?
What are my chances in getting my name in the 1st-2nd waitlist?

I have an overall 10 yrs of exp into IT industry into Recruitments, resourcing and general operations. I am an Engineer by qualification but my degree % is not so impressive (60% avg, second class).

I am very keen to undergo this program to second my experience.

    Regards,

    Vinay

  47. Hi Vindu,
I have been shortlisted for the Batch29 EGMP and need to confirm my joining next week. Before I do, that wanted to have an option on this course. Im into Marketing in Diagnostics with 7+ yrs exp.Wanted to know if this course has actually helped you in ur career.Since this is just a certification course..does it have really have the value and recognition, outside India too?..just in case If Im applying fr a Job abroad..
Conclusion..is it worth the fee that we are paying!!

    1. Shalini, Thanks for your note. At the very outset congrats for your selection.
Reg. myself, I learnt a lot in this program which I’m applying in my job, everyday. So, i did find it useful. I am sure, you’ll like it too. Look forward for making some good friends, increasing your knowledge base & you’ll certainly see the value add in your career down the line. When applying for a job abroad, please note that you need a basic qualification but this one can be rather considered as an added qualification & certification because it’s not a pg/ug program or equivalent. Hope, it clarifies.

  48. Hi Vikash,
I am a small time business owner… but i hav a technical background… Does the egmp course would be helpful for a small business owner as me…?? are there any people like me in egmp courses in iim b??

  49. Hi Vindu,

The email ID (Vindu.Vikash@iimb.ernet.in) given on this blog is throwing failure notice. Can you give me your current email ID where I can contact you.

  50. Hello Vidhu,

I’m qualified CA having 6 year of post qualification experiance in Accounting, Finance and taxation as an Assistant Manager.
Please help me in understanding whether EGMP will help me in my career growth.

I have one more option of pursuing IIM C program “EPMBD” (1 year) through NIIT Imperia.

Kindly guide me which course will help me in my career growth.

    RG Pradeep

    1. Hi Pradeep,

I did had a CA in my batch too and I think he did find the course immensely useful. EGMP at IIMB gives you solid perspectives on overall general mgmt approach. I am not so familiar with IIM C EPMBD and hence unable to comment on same.

      Best wishes,

  51. Hi Vivi,

I chanced upon your discussion post today while looking for generic information on EGMP. I received admission to EGMP-29 and already have attended one session on July 13th. I can very well relate to your comments on why this program is so special and how it benefits everyone who have been fortunate to get selected in this programme.

Though I donot have any queries as such but wanted to thank you for taking your valuable time to explain things to so many different queries that keep coming your way.. wish I could have read these post earlier..:)

    Regards,
    Indira

      1. Hi Vi Vi,

        Thanks Much!
        Indira

I also have work experience in the Microfinance sector for 4.5 years. . I also have international exposure as a Business Analyst in Banking domain.

    Thanks and Regards
    Kanak

    1. Hi Kanak,

The IIM-B program are mostly on campus. For distant education course, I am not sure how effective and useful they are especially from skill development perspectives but my unsolicited advice be that you opt for part time on campus programs, in case, if you can’t skip job and can’t afford to join a full time program. Cheers!

  53. Hi Vikash,

I am applying for the course batch 30. On the job profile, should it be fine if we upload the resume?

    Please advice.

    Regards,
    Priya

  54. Hi Vivi,

    Please clarify the below points

I have 10 yrs work exprn in IT industry.I am currently doing more of managerial role along with Technical Leads role. What are the job opportunities after the EGMP course?

Is there educational loans available for this?

I was looking at SMP from IIMC, how different is this from EGMP? Do you get the feedback from previous batches as how this course helped them in their current role?

    Many thanks,
    Savitha Santhosh

    1. Yes. Education loans are available for this course from nationalised banks. I am not fully aware about IIMC courses so unable to share comments on comparison between IIM B & C.

  55. Hi Vivi,

This is vyshnavi. I am 7 years experienced in IT industry. I just want to know the selection process for IIMB EGMP program. Do we need to go through GMAT or CAT exam for this? Please pass the info on …

    1. Hi Vyshnavi,

The selection is based on your application & profile and criteria is not disclosed by Panel but this program is for middle and sr. level management professionals.

      Cheers,

      1. Hi Vindu

I have applied for the egmp batch 30. By when will I get to know whether I have been shortlisted or not ?

        Thanks
        Shweta

  56. Hi,

Great thread. I have around 13 years of IT industry experience across domains. Currently a program manager leading global programs for a product based organization. I have been trying for last two batches, unfortunately got a regret email. I have modified my SOP both times, starting with a one-pager went to a 2-pager. This time I’m in a dilemma as to what length should I elaborate my experience or how differently I should apply. Appreciate your thoughts.

  57. Hi,

I am applying for General Management Programme for IT Executives (Batch-8). Can you please let me know if placements happen for this course and if not does it help in career growth. We won’t be given any degree/diploma for this course so how much significant this certificate can be to enhance the career.

    Warm Regards,
    Richa Srivastav

    1. Hi Richa, Pls. note that GMIT course doesn’t offer placements. If you are looking for formal management learning through this course then you can consider. Of course, if you can apply your learning appropriately then growth is unlimited. Best wishes!

  58. hey, thanks for helping everyone, wanted to check a few things, please let me know what do we need to keep in mind while writing the one pager professional journey, also if we need a statement of purpose, lastly if the cv is written in a story telling format, will it make it more or less interesting? thanks in advance..

    1. If CV is required to be presented then make it in a standard format. No need to write a story 🙂 Btw, ensure that your application form is duly filled and completed properly.

    1. TS, This is an interesting question. Let me tell you avg. years of experience – which is about 7-8 year min. and 15-20 years max. considering that aspects and leaving aside outliers, I would assume that avg. age is 34 Years. Pls. expect +/- 5% deviation in this stat. 🙂
BTW, why do you wanted to know this? Cheers!

  59. Hi,

I have been selected for the EGMP batch 30th. Please let me know whether education loans are available for this certification program and from which banks.

    Regards,
    E.Ramakrishnan

  60. Hi

I Just got an offer from IIMB for egmp batch 30. I have few queries, could you please clarify.

    – Is 75% attendance a must? Per my job, I may need to travel onsites for work. Is there a possibility of IIMB arranging any recorded sessions?
    – How good is the course for off campus students? as I hail from Hyderabad and they offered me Virtual classrooms.
    – And how good/important are the on-campus sessions happening every quarter?

    Please let me know.

    1. Congratulations! Reg. your queries-
      1. 75% attendance is desired. There’s no recording of lecture sessions done by IIMB
      2. I don’t have idea or experience about off campus. This seems to be a new concept but you can ask as many questions as want you when you are inside the classroom which is a relatively better experience, I guess.
      3. Extremely packed session/ days. Lots of studies/ exams/ homework during this time.
      Hope, it helps.
      Cheers!

  61. Hi Vikas,

I had been shortlisted for the EGMP 30 program. Please let me know whether there are educational loans available for this program and from which banks.

    Regards,
    E.Ramakrishnan

    1. Hi Ramakrishnan,

Please contact EEP office@IIMB and they should be able to redirect you to banks which offer edu. loans. I hear SBI, HDFC or any other PSU Banks would consider giving you edu. loans to pursue the course at IIMB. Good luck!

  62. Hi Vikas,

I was exploring the Advanced Mgmt Program from IIMB along with EGMP since I have 14 yrs of work experience and am into a middle management role.
Please advise of which one is more suited to improve on knowledge theory & general value add on resume…

    Thank u,

    Trudy

  63. hey,

I am almost completing 2 yrs in a product base company as a software engineer. Can i opt for this program??? or can you suggest me any other program of IIMB for pursue myself in financial control and entrepreneurship??

  64. Hi Vindu,

I have 4.5 years of experience in IT and Banking. I started as a developer but progressed to project management role . I am considering applying for IIM-B EGMP (Batch – 32). Please guide me how should I create my CV. Should it be detailed one or a crisp one page resume?
Should I focus more on my range of technical roles and abilities or managerial responsibilities?
    Should I mention references ?

    Thanks & Regards,
    Khushboo

  65. Hi VV,

Appreciate all your guidance for all EGMP IIMB aspirants.

I had applied for EGMP IIMB 32 course and got an email to wait for waitlist. Out of curiosity, i want to know the chances/probabilty of getting through after wait list?

I am eagerly waiting to be a part of this course

    Thanks

    Regards,
    Jagat

  66. Hello,
I am an Btech Cse guy with 5+ IT exp,
Im currently with Accenture and have recently started working for consulting workforce.
I was considering EGMP now, as i have the advantage of working from home.

    Had a few questions though
a)is it completely necessary to have min 7 yrs wrk exp (going thru the aforementioned posts- it looks like 😦 )? what i mean is, will it be a total waste of time for me to apply?
b)can you please give me tips on the one page write up? is it supposed to more like a resume? or a SoP?
c)what is the general class strength?

    Cheers.
    Adi

    1. Adi, Reg. your questions –
      A. I mentioned that min experience in my batch was 7 years but, you can give it a try
      B. Your profile is evaluated against other candidates so prepare a neat & crisp resume
      C. Class strength is around 90 in each batch.

  67. Hi Vindu,
I have more than 7 years of experience and working for IT company. I would like to know more information on below queries.
    1. Which course is better for my profile EGMP or GMITE?
    2. What if I missed some classes due to official or personal reason?
    3. How exams time, dates happen?
    4. Fees included all course material or there is some other charges too?
    5. How many and type(objective/subjective) of exam per module?

Thanks in advance and for your support.

    Regards,
    Harit Bhasin

    1. There are many questions but, will attempt to answer –
      1. Which course is better for my profile EGMP or GMITE?
EGMP is for general mgmt. stream i.e. applicable in all enterprises; GMITE is more useful towards mgmt. for IT based enterprises.
      2. What if I missed some classes due to official or personal reason?
Well, you just loose an attendance and opportunity to learn something in that particular class (also, consider it as a waste of your money/ fee). What’s the point of paying fee and not attending the class. During unavoidable situations when you miss a class; take help/ notes from classmates & talk to professor in case of any doubts.
      3. How exams time, dates happen?
For each course, there’s an exam after the course is completed. The exam schedule is announced in advance.
      4. Fees included all course material or there is some other charges too?
Fee includes course materials, lunch, snacks/ tea. There’s no other charges.
      5. How many and type(objective/subjective) of exam per module?
Depends on the professor; there’s no fixed pattern. There’s an exam/ evaluation for each of courses you take.

  68. Hi Vindhu,

Thanks a ton for sharing the valuable info here!

It will be great if you can share you experience on how market perceived your profile post EGMP. Is Indian job market mature enough yet to look beyond MBA and meet professionals with similar certificates? In other words; do you get shortlisted at least for some opportunities that invite MBAs?

    Cheers!
    Sanjeet

    1. I’ve not really explored the job opportunities after this course and I work for same co., even now. However, it brought me lot of respect, admiration by peers and colleagues for the add-on skills that I’ve gathered and applied to my day-to-day job, after this course. It all depends on how well you apply your learning and experience; the prudent decisions makes a lot of difference to quality of your work. The benefits are surely immense. Cheers,

  69. HI, Appreciate all your guidance for all EGMP IIMB aspirants.
I had applied for EGMP IIMB 35 course and got an email to wait for waitlist.
However, it does not say how many are in wait-list and where I am in the wait-list queue. How do I figure out, whats my position among the waitlist candidates, so that I will know my level of chances of making it. Also, does anyone know from their experience, typically how many students from waitlist makes it to this program?

I am eagerly waiting to be a part of this course

  70. Hi,
I am holding B.E. in civil engineering and currently working as General Manager – Projects and having 22yrs of experience. Whether this course is worth in doing in a job oriented perspective in future?

    1. I wouldn’t say that learning at any stage of the career would cause a harm to anyone. If someone has time, money, enthusiasm and passion for it; it’s highly recommended. Cheers,

  71. Hi Vindu,

Thanks for the write up and responses to queries above. They’re definitely helpful for those wanting to pursue this course.
I plan to apply for GMITE-10 (2016 batch). For the resume that is to be uploaded, what is the expected format ? I have 9yrs of technical experience and my resume highlights my technical expertise. I would appreciate it if you could provide some pointers on what IIM B would be expecting to see in the resume. Is it more of an SOP? Could you please reply to my mail id.

    Thanks in advance,
    Jean

    1. Hi Jean,

I’ve replied to your query and sent the response to your email id.
      ===
Thanks for reaching out. I believe, you should also highlight your management skills and contributions made towards the business growth in the organizations that you’ve worked for. The IIMB panel also wishes to see some business acumen which can be refined through such courses. Though, this is largely an academic course but, it’s always helpful if the class has unified perspectives and the focus is always on the environmental factors and ecosystems of the businesses.

There’s no fixed format of CV. Please fee free to highlight your accomplishments and contributions made to your organization. All the best.

      Cheers,

  72. Hi Vindu,

Hope you are doing fine and appreciate your efforts to answer all the questions asked by everyone for so long. It seems that you also belong to IT industry and hence asking you the questions. Which one would be better GMITE or EGMP. I have 8 years IT experience (6 being FLM level) and prior to that 3 years bpo exp. Now looking to grow up the ladder. Which course would be helpful for me.

    Regards,
    Manish

    1. Hi Manish,

EGMP class will have students from various industries (Automobile, IT, Manufacturing etc). GMITE is specifically designed for IT Professionals. The course content will be 60% to 70% common in EGMP and GMITE. You can go through the topics that they teach you in these course to make an informed decision.

      Cheers,

  73. Hi Vindu,
I got offer for GMITE-10. After fee payment IIMB asked to send personal docket.. is it same as SOP or is it resume? do they judge based on it? or its just for their reference?
    Please help me urgently..

    Thanks and Regards
    Ssharma

  74. Hello Vindu,

Congratulations for helping out to such large group!

I have been IT (primarily in Support and Operations) for 10 years. Last few years the focus has been on Project Management and IT strategy and Governance in an Automobile company.

I had applied for EGMP 36 on the last date of the application period. Unfortunately, I did not get a call to join. What different I should do while applying for batch-37 (now open) ?
I would appreciate your help on this.
    Cheers,
    Baldeep

    1. I believe, this course is designed for middle level mgrs. who aspire to join sr. mgmt. or leadership positions in any organization. Therefore, you should highlight your managerial abilities including financial mgmt., people mgmt and business mgmt. skill. Good luck!

      Cheers,

  75. Hi Vindhu

I would like to know if this course adds value to your resume when you are looking to change your job.

    Please advise.

    Thank You

    1. I guess, it should. Though, I’ve not changed my job yet but, it definitely enhances your skills which you may make you even more effective in your job.

  76. Hi,
First, let me thank you for this informative web page.
I am having 6.5 years of experience in IT Security and Compliance and would like to go for EGMP course either in late 2016 or early 2017. From the content i do understand that this course should be beneficial to leverage management skills.
    My queries are as follows
    1. I would require an education loan [partial] and can you please guide me for that.
    2. To what extent is the course interactive/exhaustive?

    Regards
    Mainak

    1. Hi Mainak,

      1. You can seek edu. loan from leading banks (HDFC Bank, SBI etc), if needed. I am sure, it shouldn’t be difficult to get it.
      2. Course is quite interactive (depends on how much you get involved) and it offers a great opportunity to clarify all your queries/doubts on any specific topic. The course will require you to study for 3-5 hrs daily.

      Cheers!
